Large Embroidered Picture Tzintzuntzan
Near Lake Patzcuaro, in the village of Santa Cruz, women embroider scenes of women cooking, men fishing, and other scenes of daily life in a Purepecha village, as well as traditional village dances such as the Dance of the Viejitos, and festivals such as Dia de los Muertos and Corpus Christi. The pictures can be framed or are often made into clothing and decorative pillows. Every year there is a concurso (handcraft competition) in Rancho Santa Cruz; it is very competitive and the quality of the entries is remarkable. We found this stunning piece at the 2018 concurso, by artist--Maria de Los Angeles Barriga Barriga.
Approximately 25 in. wide x 18 in. high, not including black space beyond embroidery.
