Fibras vegetales or plant fiber are another branch of Michoacán traditional crafts. Hats, animal figures, mats, and even furniture are made by indigenous artisans out of a variety of plant material, from pine needles in the eastern Sierra, to palm leaves on the Coast, to tule reeds found around Lake Patzcuaro.
