A couple of years ago Mexico By Hand was selected by Modelo USA (the #1 beer brand in the U.S.) to help infuse authenticity into Cinco de Mayo celebrations. It was a campaign to spotlight Mexican traditions, artistry and culture, and to help fans authentically celebrate Cinco de Mayo. They called it “Cinco Auténtico”, which promoted authentic Mexican products made by Mexican and Mexican-American artisans. While we're not endorsing the beer brand here, we want to always encourage everyone to buy authentic crafts by artisans in Mexico. It's what we do every day. As you can read in the article below, Cinco de Mayo is about more than drinking beer and margaritas and is not widely observed in Mexico. It is in fact an American holiday, originally celebrated by Mexican-Americans in the USA. It celebrates the victory of a small army of Mexicans who defeated a powerful French army at the Battle of Puebla. While we are anxious about the future relationship between our two countries and the racist attitudes of our own government, we know that there are more of us who desire friendship and cooperation. For us Cinco de Mayo represents pride and respect for Latino culture, which of course includes the beautiful handmade Mexican art we are proud to share with you. --Peggy
